Mabel T. Massaro

WALLINGFORD - Mabel T. Massaro, 84, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, surrounded by her loving family and friends at the Curtis Home in Meriden. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Philip Massaro for over 58 years.
Mabel was born in New Haven on October 2, 1931 to the late Alexander and Mary Dwyer Huston. She grew up in West Haven, and after graduating from West Haven High School, she moved on to and graduated from the St. Raphael's School of Nursing. From there, she continued to work at St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven. After being blessed with children, she continued in the nursing profession as a visiting nurse. Mabel later continued her education and earned her master's degree from Southern Connecticut State University. She started teaching English as a second language in the Wallingford, Middletown, and Meriden areas, even earning the Teacher of the Year Award. She was fluent in both the Italian and Spanish languages. In her spare time, besides spending time with her loving family, she enjoyed painting, needle pointing, gardening, and traveling with her loving Philip.
Besides her husband, Mabel leaves behind her daughter Carolyn (Frederick) Foster of Wallingford, and two sons: Peter Massaro of CA, and Tom (Sandy Papale) Massaro of Wallingford. She will also be sorely missed by her three grandchildren: Michael, Christopher, and Jenna Massaro, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mabel is predeceased by her sisters Veronica Tomilson and Shirley Durant, a brother-in-law Vincent Massaro, and sister-in-law Marie Massaro.
Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street in Wallingford. A procession will leave the funeral home on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 9:45 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Resurrection in Wallingford. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
