BRANFORD - Ada Pryor Bryan Speranza, 91, departed this life peacefully at home on March 31, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul D. Speranza.
Ada was born July 29, 1922 in Smithville, GA, to the late Moses W. and Musa (Usry) Bryan.
She was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a Lieutenant nurse in the Pacific front during World War II and had worked as visiting nurse and then a nursing educator prior to her retirement. She taught nursing at Adelphi University in Garden City NY prior to raising her children and later at Muhlenberg school of nursing in Plainfield NJ after raising her children.
Ada had a great love of nature, the ocean, birds and art, literature, poetry and music. She spent a life time exposing others to these passions and encouraging them to further their interest in these passions.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters Musa Speranza (and husband Joseph Shin) of New Haven and Carolyn Speranza (and husband Mick Karolac) of Pittsburgh, PA as well as her grandchildren Olivia and Sebastian Shin.
Interment with military honor will take place on May 23rd 2014 at 1:30pm at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford has been entrusted with the arrangements. It is suggested that contributions in her memory be directed to: Friends of Assateague State Park, P.O.
