PLAINVILLE - Alfreda "Freda" (Aubut) Rossignol passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of ninety-nine on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Avon Health Center in Avon, CT. She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Robertine (Thibault) Aubut and the beloved wife of the late Roger Rossignol (1917-1984).

Freda was predeceased by her brothers Lionel, Gerard, and Germain Aubut, as well as sisters Simone Herbert, Juliette Cormier, Georgette Picard, Noella Bard, Germaine Baxter, and Blanche Nadeau.

Born in St. Martin, New Brunswick, Canada, Freda lived on the family farm until her family moved to Edmundston, NB when she was thirteen. The following year they moved to New Britain, CT where they started their family, then to Plainville, CT in 1960 where they raised their family.

Freda was proud of her French-Canadian heritage and loved to tell stories of her life in Canada and returned for many summer vacations to visit with her family. A devout Catholic, she worked as a Nurses Aide at New Britain General Hospital, as well as several local nursing homes over her 30-year career. She was a skilled seamstress and made most of her grandchildren's Halloween costumes when they were young. Freda was also highly creative with knitting, crocheting, painting, and ceramics, the family treasures her creations. She enjoyed singing with the chorus at Village Gate in Farmington, CT where she lived for eight years before moving to Avon Health Center, her trademark songs were a solo Silent Night and La Vie En Rose, both in French. Freda mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, Sunday dinners, and treasure hunting at tag sales. She leaves a legacy of courage, strength, sacrifice, and love of her family.
