You Can Run Now
A childhood illness
A life changed
A chair
The chair- some say it confined and defined you, but I know the truth
Body bound yet spirit free
But you can run now
Never a word spoken
Though joy and love of life you spread to countless friends
Lives changed
Body bound yet spirit free
But you can run now
I remember the afternoons when I would push you in your chair
Sun and wind on your face, old friends
Body bound yet spirit free
But you can run now
I'll learn from you and take away what I can
Joy in the smallest things and gratitude for life itself
Perseverance through pain and suffering
In honor of a brother departed
Body bound yet spirit free
But you can run now
I'll wet my pillow with tears and shake my fist at the cold night
But not for long
I know the Great Physician will mend you and heal you whole
Body unbound and spirit free
So, leave this land of dust
Tears
Shadows
And until we see each other again in that New World
Walk in the sunshine of a new morning
Actually, you can run now
You can run now!
Elegy for my brother André D’Auteuil
