Concepcion Garcia Tribute

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Concepcion Garcia of Canton, formerly of Plainville, on July 28, 2021, at the age of 86.

Concepcion (often called Connie or Concha) was born on April 13, 1935 in Havana, Cuba to Joseph Solloso Pernas and Mercedes Aladro Pernas.  She was predeceased by her husband, Florentino Garcia in 2006.  Connie leaves behind a son, Florentino, two daughters, Elizabeth Demicco and her husband Jerry and Betty Butler and her husband Daryl.  She is also lovingly remembered by her ten grandchildren, Christina, Heather, Brandon, Josh, Alexa, Juliana, Jenna, Catherine, Julia and Jared and five great grandchildren.

She started her career as a secretary in Cuba.  In 1956, married, immigrated and they fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming U.S. citizens. Once in the U.S.,  worked for Sussman's Grocery in New Britain, Connecticut until she stayed home for several years to raise her children.  She later worked at Plainville Special Tool and Colonial Spring in Bristol before retiring.

Connie loved dancing and singing as a child into young adulthood.  She was very active in La Beneficencia Gallega in Cuba, which was an organization for those residing in Cuba but still very connected to their Galitian roots in Spain.  It was a place to celebrate, gather and enjoy Spanish dance, song, culture and customs.  She was crowned the honorary "queen" or spokesperson of the Society in 1952.   She shared her love of culture, song and dance with her family and always encouraged them to enjoy music and all of its gifts.

She blessed many in her family with her care.  A devoted daughter, she cared for her father, José before his passing in 1981 and mother, Mercedes who passed in 1999.  She cared for her husband after suffering an aneurym and many debilitating health issues for 14 years.  She had immense love for her children, grandchildren and cared for us all.

She and her husband traveled many times to their native Spain, enjoying seeing his childhood home, her parents' homes and visiting many relatives.  She loved the beach, attending her grandchildrens' functions and hosting family gatherings on holidays or spending summers  poolside with her children and grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed for the unconditional love she gave to those whose lives she touched.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Cherrybrook Health Care Center in Canton for their loving care.  Connie loved many at CBHCC and we will always be thankful for you all.  The family also would like to thank McLean Hospice for their amazing care in her last days.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St. in Plainville. A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:30 PM. Internment will be private at St. Joseph Cemetery in Plainville, CT.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Concepcion's name to Cherry Brook Health Care Center Resident's Council, 102 Dyer Ave, Canton, CT  or to McLean Hospice in Simsbury, Connecticut.
