David Frederick Birkett, 73, of Bristol, CT., passed away surrounded by his loving family on January 21, 2019 at the Hartford Hospital. Born on Nov. 5, 1945, in Queens, New York, he was a son of the late David W. Birkett and Mary Teauhey Birkett, brother to the late Thomas R. Birkett and father to the late David J. Birkett. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara Ann Hess Birkett; his daughter, Heather Marie Birkett Miner; his sister Kathleen Marie Birkett and three wonderful grandsons, Alexander J. Miner, Jonthre D. Birkett and Joseph D. Birkett of RI and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dave was a graduate of Rutgers University and a veteran of the United States Navy, during which time he was honored with the National Defense Service Medal and Medal for Good Conduct. He had a successful career as a General Manager over the years for companies in NJ and CT, ultimately retiring as GM from New Milford Block & Supply in CT. Over the years he was a member of many organizations including the American Legion, Lions Club, Mason Contractors Assoc., BMW Club of America and the New England Fraternal Congress in which he and his family were honored with the Family of the Year Award in 1988 for their volunteerism. Dave also served as the High Chief Ranger of the Liberty High Court during his longstanding membership with the Independent Order of Foresters, a fraternal organization.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday beginning 9AM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville, CT and proceed to the Catholic Church of St. Matthew, Forestville, CT for Mass at 10AM. Burial will be held privately. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 7PM. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions to their grandsons CHET Advisor College Savings Plans.
