Dolores Woessner Tribute

Dolores “Dodie” Adeline Woessner, 84, of Meriden, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 3.

Born in Minot, ND, daughter of the late Arthur & Mabel (Moen) Aune, she was raised in North Dakota.  She celebrated 51 years of marriage to Donald Beeran Woessner (deceased in 11/17/2005) and enjoyed being a housewife to a government employee traveling to Border Patrol & US Immigration & Naturalization stations in El Paso, TX; Ogdensburg, NY; Hannah & Portal, ND; Fairbanks & Anchorage, AK; San Diego, CA; and, finally to her favorite at the U.S. Embassy in Rome, Italy.

Upon her husband’s retirement, they returned to ND to care for ailing parents, and then settled in Meriden, CT to be closer to family.  Hobbies included doing crossword puzzles, sewing and quilting, gardening, reading, watching the Hallmark Channel, Girls Night Out, and what she called a “Casino Run”.  She took her role as homemaker seriously; providing home-cooked meals, canning, and baking for any event.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Elks Auxiliary, and National Rifle Association.

Dodie is survived by her two sons, Douglas Woessner of Anchorage, Alaska, and Dennis Woessner (Sherrill) of Colchester, Connecticut; a daughter, Deborah Woessner Lyman of Meriden, Connecticut; and grandson, Remington Perry Lyman of Columbus, Ohio. She is predeceased by her two brothers, Merlyn & Melton Aune of ND, and son-in-law David Lyman of Meriden.

She will be escorted back home by family to North Dakota and laid to rest with her late husband in the Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in the memory of Dolores Woessner to Mitchell Farm Equine Retirement Home, 300 E Haddam Road, Salem, CT, 06420, www.MitchellFarm.org/giving or The Blue Trail Junior Rifle Club Endowment Fund, Inc.
