Elizabeth R. Harkin of Pilgrim’s Harbor, Wallingford, passed peacefully away February 26, 2021 at home.
Born August 3, 1923, Betty was the fourth daughter of Patrick L. and Genevieve (Dillon) Harkin. She graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1940 and received her associate’s degree from Weylister Junior College in 1942. Following a business career, she retired as the administrative assistant to the director at the Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center in 1986.
She lived in the Westville section of New Haven until 1980 when she moved to Pilgrims Harbor. Betty had been a longtime volunteer at the Wallingford Public Library, a past member and President of the Wallingford Garden Club and a parishioner of the Church of Resurrection.
She was predeceased by her three sisters: Genevieve H. Lewis, Virginia H. Clifford, and Katherine H. Healey, her brother Edward D. Harkin and nephew Richard L. Clifford. Betty is survived by two nieces: Elizabeth Clifford and Elizabeth H. Woods; seven nephews: Stephen Clifford, Russell Healey, Patrick Harkin, Edward Harkin, Paul Harkin, John Harkin, and James Harkin as well as several great nieces and nephews and many great greats.
With the COVID-19 travel and gathering restrictions lifted, the family would like to invite all that wish to attend to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 31st at 10:00am at The Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford. Interment at St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth's memory may be made to The Church of the Resurrection or The Wallingford Public Library.
