Gerald Francis Topitzer

NEW HAVEN - Gerald Francis (Jerry) Topitzer, 85, departed this life on February 24, 2020 at Whispering Pines Nursing Home in East Haven. He was the beloved and loving husband of Patricia (Demmons) Topitzer. Gerald was born in Bridgeport, CT on March 30, 1934, to the late Cornelius and Mae (Elliott) Topitzer.

Jerry attended Milford High School, received a BS from Fairfield University and MSW and PhD degrees from Columbia University. Jerry was a clinician, administrator and carried out a successful private practice as a psychotherapist for the last 18 years of his career.

Before attending Columbia, Jerry served his country honorably in the United States Army.

Besides his loving wife, Patricia, Gerald is survived by his children; Sara Topitzer, Elizabeth Topitzer, Jerry Topitzer, by his loved and loving grandchildren Maya Topitzer, Isabel and Aaron Gallinger and Roan Topitzer. He also leaves his sons-in-laws Eric Hoffert and Daniel Gallinger as well as his daughter-in-law, Ayesha Vera-Yu. His twin sister, Jean Lewis, and sister-in-law Mary Jane Topitzer also survive. Jerry was predeceased by an infant daughter, Julie Topitzer.
