PLAINVILLE - Joan (Bosse) Oliveira, aged 88, of Plainville, CT, peacefully departed this life surrounded by her loving family on July 16, 2023. She was born to the late Deline (Chasse) and Joseph Bosse and was the cherished wife of the late David Oliveira.

Joan spent her early years on her family’s farm in Maine, where she grew up as the fourth daughter among twelve siblings. She attended St. Agatha High School in St. Agatha, Maine, before making the courageous decision to move to Connecticut to join her siblings in search of work. It was during this time in Joan's life that she met her future husband, David, at a dance at Lake Compounce. Their shared love for dancing blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and on April 19, 1958, they exchanged vows at St. Peters Church in New Britain. Together they raised four children, Gary, Janice, Jeffrey, and Lynn.

In 1968, Joan and David embarked on a new journey together, starting Dial Electric, now known as Regal Electric. Joan played a vital role as the bookkeeper and secretary, contributing to the growth and success of their business.

From their early childhood to adulthood, their children shared numerous moments of laughter and joy in their mother’s presence. One of the cherished family memories was the yearly vacation to the 1000 Acres Ranch in upstate New York, where Joan and David also celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by their entire family. Joan taught her children the value of caring for others through her own example, and she instilled in them a sense of empathy and compassion.

Above all else, Joan found the most joy in being a mother and grandmother. She dedicated herself to raising her children while also being a devoted housewife. As her children started families of their own, Joan selflessly helped raise her grandchildren, allowing her own children to pursue their careers. Her love and care were evident in the countless little notes and cards she wrote, which brought smiles to the faces of all who received them. Joan embodied selfless love, always prioritizing the needs of others, regardless of their age or circumstances. Her unwavering faith was a source of strength for her, as she prayed often and had been an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Plainville.

Joan's talent for uttering outrageous remarks that brought laughter to her grandchildren was one of the many sources of joy for those who adored her. Her affectionate nature and warm embraces were well-known and cherished. Moreover, Joan excelled as a hostess, graciously welcoming friends and family into her home for festive occasions and gatherings. Together with David, they would wave goodbye from the window until everyone disappeared from sight, leaving behind cherished memories of their boundless love and affection.

In recent years, Joan found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, attending their events and sporting games, which brought her and David immense happiness. She had a passion for playing card games, particularly Set Back, and she eagerly learned new card games from friends at the senior center. Joan also had a love for Yahtzee and enjoyed the thrill of bowling.

Joan leaves behind a legacy of kindness and optimism that her children and grandchildren carry with them, a testament to the example she set. She taught them the value of always thinking of others first, never passing judgment, and embodying unconditional love. Joan's spirit will forever be cherished by her family and all those whose lives she touched.

Joan is predeceased by her devoted husband, David, as well as numerous brothers and sisters, and extended family.

She is survived by her children, Gary (and wife Susan), Janice (and husband Tom) Forcella, Jeffrey (and wife Deborah), and Lynn; her sister, Jean Cyr (and husband Conrad); grandchildren, Victoria Esq. (and husband Callum) Davidson, Sara (and husband Dr. Nathan Sison) Forcella, David (and wife Brittney) Oliveira, Jonathan (and wife Danielle) Oliveira, Jason Oliveira, and Marissa and Anthony Matarazzo; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Oliver Davidson, and Colton and Elena Oliveira; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

Joan will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered as a remarkable woman who brought joy and love into the lives of all those around her. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to The Summit at Plantsville for all her wonderful caregivers and family that loved her there.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Saturday, July 22, 2023 between 8:30 to 9:45am at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad Street, Plainville.
