Juan Gomez

On Sunday, November 15, 2020, we lost a prominent and beloved member of our Wallingford community. Mr. Juan Gomez was born in 1938 in Lagunillas Michoacán, México. He moved to Wallingford with his wife and family in the early 80’s and worked at Connecticut Steel Corporation (now Nucor Steel) until his retirement. Mr. Gomez is well known as “the man in the sombrero” who was always seen walking or riding the bus around town. He is fondly remembered for his ability to greet and speak to everyone who crossed his path. Mr. Gomez always offered help to those he thought needed it and was quick to offer anyone his last couple of dollars, if he thought they would be of help. He was an active member of Most Holy Trinity Church and a wonderful grandfather to his beloved grandchildren. He is remembered by his family, friends and everyone who knew him as a strong-willed, determined, outgoing, independent, and friendly individual. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who had the opportunity to know him.

El Domingo, 15 de noviembre de 2020, perdimos un destacado y querido miembro de la comunidad de Wallingford. El Señor Juan Gomez nació en el 1938 en Lagunillas Michoacán, México. Se mudo a Wallingford con su esposa y familia a principios de los años 80 y trabajó en Connecticut Steel Corporation (ahora Nucor Steel) hasta su retiro. El Señor Gomez es conocido como “el señor del sombrero” que siempre se veía caminando o viajando en el autobús en el pueblo. Se recuerda cariñosamente por su habilidad de saludar y hablar con cualquier persona que encontraba en su camino. El Señor Gomez siempre le ofrecía ayuda a aquellos que él pensaba lo necesitaba y era rápido en ofrecerle a cualquiera sus últimos dólares, si él pensaba que les podría ayudar. Era un miembro activo de la Iglesia de la Santísima Trinidad y un maravilloso abuelo a sus amados nietos. Se recuerda por su familia, amistades y todos los que lo conocieron como un individuo tenaz, resuelto, extrovertido, independiente y amable. Su familia y todos los que tuvimos la oportunidad de conocerlo lo extrañaremos mucho.
