Katherine M. (Raymond) Swanson

Katherine M. (Raymond) Swanson, 90, lifelong resident of Plainville passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2019 at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain.

Katherine was born in her childhood home in Plainville on March 4, 1929 daughter to the late Allen M. and Leonora (Jennings) Raymond. She grew up in Plainville graduating from Plainville High School in 1947. She was employed by the CT Children’s Medical Center as a bookkeeper for many years. At the age of 50, Katherine went on to attend classes at Tunxis Community College and graduated at the impressive age of 60 earning her associates degree in accounting. She was very passionate about numbers and enjoyed her role as a tax aid for AARP, where she helped the elders with filing taxes. Katherine was also highly involved with the American Red Cross and was a volunteer for over ten years. She loved to travel; from her summers at the family camp in Barkhamstead (Ampy’s Camp), to her excursions to Hawaii, Alaska, Germany at the age of 80 and Yellowstone National Park at the age of 81, she was always willing and ready for the next adventure. Katherine was a very simple woman, who enjoyed life to the fullest with an abundance of love and kindness to share.

Katherine is survived by her children, John Swanson and his wife, Barbara of Leland, NC, Karen Swanson of Southington, Raymond Swanson and his wife, Debra of Plainville, and Debra Swanson of Bristol; her grandchildren, Eric Santos and his wife, Dorothy, Andrea Santos, Michele Swanson, Nicole Swanson, Katherine Huber and her husband, Jon, Andrew Swanson, and Steffani Franek and her husband, George; her 7 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her siblings, Allen Raymond, Frances “Peggy” Masiuk, Robert Raymond, Kenneth Raymond, and John Raymond.

Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville on Friday, December 20, 2019 from 12:00 to 1:30 PM. A service in celebration of Katherine’s life will be held at 1:30 PM. Burial will follow in Plainville West Cemetery.
