WALLINGFORD - Leonard Malavasi Jr., 74, departed this life on November 27, 2019 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. Brother to Thomas Malavasi, Leonard was born in New Haven, CT on March 7, 1945 to the late Leonard and Mary (D'Addio) Malavasi Sr.
Lenny was employed as a US Mailman for over thirty years with the North Haven Post Office. Outside of work though, he led a very impactful life. Since 1982, he was very active in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. Often times he would bring the kids he mentored on all sorts of adventures including skiing, white water rafting and fishing. He also got them involved with team sports. Lenny coached basketball for several years with the Wallingford Parks & Recreation Department and won may championships. His dedication to mentoring went far beyond the organizations he was involved in. He developed many friendships over the years with those he guided and was always proud of each one of them.
Some of Lenny's other joys in life were riding his motorcycle with friends, driving classic cars, skiing, deep sea fishing and racquet ball. He loved Motown music and was an avid fan of the NY Giants, NY Yankees, NY Knicks, Notre Dame Football and UCONN Men's Basketball. Lenny was a friend to many and will surely be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 10 AM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation prior to the service from 9AM to 10AM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
