Louise Garewski Tribute

Louise Ann (Baruffi) Garewski (Mimi)

Louise Ann (Baruffi) Garewski of Plainville CT, wife of the late Alexander W. Garewski, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Louise was the daughter of the late Frederick and Lottie (Januskiewicz) Baruffi. She was born in New Britain, CT on February 10, 1935.  She was a graduate of New Britain High School (class of 1953). It was there she met and later married her classmate and best friend Alex Garewski. She was a graduate of the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital School of Nursing (class of 1956). Her nursing career spanned over 47 years at Meriden Hospital, New Britain General Hospital and at Plainville Health Care.  She also worked many years as a private duty nurse and provided exceptional care to everyone with compassion and understanding. During her working years she made many close friends, both colleagues and family members of those she cared for.  Louise was also a survivor of the 1944 Barnum and Bailey Circus fire in Hartford, CT where she and her late brother Fred escaped the flames through a small hole in the canvas.

Every family member held a special place in her heart and she enjoyed watching them grow and find their place in life. It gave her great joy to be with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren where she always passed on kind words of encouragement and love. Louise greatly appreciated the care and assistance her son Gary provided for both her and Alex over the past several years.

She cherished the times she could spend with Alex and their sons at their cottage at Beaver Lake in Ware, MA and then at their cabin in Tunbridge, VT. Both of their vacation homes were built by Alex and the boys and it gave the family great joy to get away and enjoy all the leisure activities far away from work and their busy lives.

Louise is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Jeffrey and Andrea Garewski of Storrs, CT; David and Tammy Garewski and granddaughters Davia and Alexa of Plainville, CT; and Gary Garewski of Plainville, CT and granddaughter Taylor Garewski of San Diego, CA .  She also leaves her beloved grandchildren Daniel Garewski, his wife Megan Krell and great-grandson Desmond Garewski of Sturbridge, MA; Alison Garewski, her husband Steven Whitcomb and great-granddaughter Norah Whitcomb of Coventry, CT; and Katie Garewski of Brooklyn, CT.  All of her grandchildren affectionately knew her as Mimi and she dearly loved every one of them.

Louise is also survived by her brother-in-law Clifford Fournier of Coventry, CT; her sister-in-law Gloria Baruffi of Newington, CT; her brother-in-law David Dudek of Plainville, CT, along with her many special nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her loving sisters Wendy Dudek and Marjorie Fournier, brother Frederick A. Baruffi as well as a special aunt Sonia Verbitsky.
