PLAINVILLE - Maria G. Cutler, 92, resident of Plainville for 65 years, passed away at Live Well Healthcare on Saturday, March 19, 2022 with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas J. Cutler with whom she had 39 wonderful years.
Maria was born in Charlottenburg, Berlin, Germany on February 6, 1930 to the late Berta (Steur) Wolff. She was employed by Hamilton Standard in Farmington assembling gyroscopes. Maria was honored with several awards for her contributions to the aerospace field; Most notably, the Viking orbiter. NASA's Viking Project would become the first U.S. mission to land a spacecraft safely on the surface of Mars and return images of the surface. They did so using parts Maria had assembled and consulted on. Maria was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, and Hartford Saengerbund, and volunteered at the Plainville Senior Center and the Hospice of Central Connecticut.
Maria leaves behind three sons, Nicholas P. Cutler (Judith) of Plantsville, Mark Cutler (Sonia) of Maryville, TN, and Kenneth Cutler (Tammie) of Bristol. Also left to cherish her memory are her four grandchildren, Nicholas T Cutler (Kristin) of CT, Timothy Cutler of CT, Scott Cutler of WY, and Amy Cutler of TN as well as her great-grandchildren, Cody, Tyler, Kristi, Nicholas A. Cutler, one great great grandchild, Laila Barr, and her two sisters, Elizabeth Wolff of Avon and Sister Margaret Vincent Wolff. Besides her Husband Nicholas, Maria was preceded in death by her brother Charles Wolff.

Family and friends may visit Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St, Plainville on Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 4-6 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 11 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church,19 S Canal St, Plainville, CT. Interment will immediately follow Mass in St. Joseph Cemetery Plainville. Memorial contributions in Maria's memory can be made to The Plainville Senior Center, 200 East St, Plainville, CT 06062.
