Mary Boyd Tribute

WALLINGFORD - Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Boyd, 91, passed away January 14, 2021, at Hartford Hospital after a very brief illness. Born on July 7, 1929, in Lynn, Massachusetts, she was the second child of Richard Joseph Williams, M.D. and Madeleine Williams (nee Kemp). Many summers with her family were spent in Gilmanton Iron Works, New Hampshire. She enjoyed lake life, horseback riding and was a lifelong dog lover. She graduated from Lynn English High School in 1945.  Later that year she went to Jackson College, Tufts University, where she majored in Pre-Medicine and Education. There she met her future husband, a returning veteran, Gilbert Dixon Boyd of Wallingford, Connecticut. After graduation in 1949 they married in Lynn and moved to Wallingford and made it their home. Gilbert passed away in 2006. Liz remained in Wallingford.
For over twenty-five years, Liz supported Gilbert’s activities with Boy Scout Troop 4, carrying scouts to and from hikes, accompanying scouts on camping trips and events, and buying food and supplies, among other things. She and Gilbert were lifelong members of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church. She enjoyed riding horses with friends at several stables in the area and training her dogs. Liz had eleven dogs over her lifetime. She did volunteer work at Meriden Hospital.
She is survived by her three children: Gilbert and his wife Anne Boyd, of Gilmanton Iron Works, New Hampshire, their daughter Jennifer and sons Gilbert and Richard; Virginia (Ginny) Boyd of Salem, Massachusetts, her daughters Gillian (Libby) and Aniko and her husband Scott and sons Joseph and Thomas (Teo); and Richard and his wife Patricia Boyd of Holliston, Massachusetts and their daughters Nancy and Diana and Diana’s husband Saujanya.  She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on a date to be determined later.  Cards should be sent to Richard Boyd, 85 Karen Circle, Holliston, MA 01746.  Contributions may be sent to:  The Gil Boyd Scholarship Fund, c/o Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 65 North Main Street, Wallingford, CT 06492. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home of Wallingford has been entrusted with Mary's final arrangements.
