Olive Jane Heebner Tribute

ESSEX - Olive Jane (Sanderson) Heebner, 94, departed this life peacefully on November 20, 2022, at Essex Meadows with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles F. Heebner for 69 years.

Jane was born in Waterbury, CT on May 27, 1928, to the late Harry and Olive (Bradshaw) Sanderson. Jane was raised in Waterbury and resided there most of her life until she and Charles moved to Watertown in 1996.  She was a graduate of Crosby High School as well as Post Business College.

She especially enjoyed reading, gardening, vacationing at various beaches with her family, and spending winters in Venice Florida. She enjoyed her time spent with Literacy Volunteers, teaching adult reading. She was proficient at crossword puzzles and enjoyed playing bridge with her husband and friends.

Jane was ever present while her children were growing up and was well known for her apple pie, rhubarb pie and Christmas cookies. She spent much time sewing and knitting clothes for her children's Barbie dolls and teddy bears. She also spent many years within the Bunker Hill Congregational Church, crafting for various bazaars, teaching Sunday school, and assisting in the church kitchen. She was also a volunteer for the Waterbury Hospital Women's Auxiliary for many years. She will always be remembered as a loving grandmother and her children will forever cherish the love and attention she shared with family and friends.

Jane is survived by her son Lawrence (Kathy) Heebner, daughter Cherie Juhnke and her partner Peter Portante, daughter Kim Clark, and daughter Lois Heebner. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Benjamin and Jonathan Heebner, and Peter Portante as well as 4 great-grandchildren, Natalie and Jack Heebner and Harper and Hayden Heebner. Besides her parents and husband, Jane was pre-deceased by her two siblings Lois Smyth and Harry Sanderson, an infant son Bronson and a daughter-in-law Karen Heebner.
