Peter Wood

Peter Wood, 85, of Plainville, passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain. He was the devoted and loving husband for 64 years to Barbara (Robinson) Wood.

Peter was born in North Hartland, Vermont on January 25, 1932, son to the late Ralph and Regis (Daley) Wood. He was a longtime Plainville resident and was very active in the Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister for six years and teaching religious education at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Plainville. He was a master of all trades and loved to tinker around with things, as no task was impossible for Peter. Peter served our country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He loved to go hunting.

In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his children, Stephen Wood and his wife, Cheryl, of New Britain, Thomas Wood and his wife, Erika, of Southington, Edward Wood and his wife, Gerrie, of NH, Mary Wood, of Plainville, Timothy Wood and his wife, Leslie, of SC, Catherine Foster and her husband, Gene, of NH, Barbara Laliberte and her husband, Bob, of SC, and Daniel Wood and his wife Tracy, of Southington; his 14 grandchildren; his 10 great grandchildren; his brother, Thomas Wood and his wife, Susan, of NH; his sister, Regina Gaudreau and her husband, Armand, of MA; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was predeceased by his siblings, Rita Kraljevich, John, Richard, Paul, Raymond, Mark, and Jerome Wood.

Funeral services in celebration of Peter’s life will begin on Saturday, March 10 at 9 AM from Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St. Plainville for a Mass of Christian burial being celebrated at 10 AM at the Church of Saint Matthew, 120 Church Ave., Forestville. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, 522 Terryville Ave., Bristol. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the funeral home on Friday evening between 5 and 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Peter can be made to the Neuroendocrine Cancer Awareness Network (NCAN), 3074 Brookchase Blvd, Fort Mill, SC 29707.
