WALLINGFORD - Susan (Kosik) Pizzi, 79, of Wallingford, passed away on
Friday, November 26, 2021 . She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Pizzi (1940 - 2014) of Wallingford.
Susan was born on July 30, 1942 in Pittston, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Olenchak) Kosik. Susan graduated from Scranton State General Hospital in Scranton, PA. She began her nursing career at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, NY. Upon her move to Connecticut in 1967, she continued her career as an I.V. nurse at Meriden-Wallingford Hospital in Meriden where she was promoted to I.V Director. When Meriden-Wallingford Hospital merged with Hartford Hospital in Hartford, she transferred to Hartford Hospital where she retired from her nursing career of more than 50 years.
In recent years, she enjoyed going to the Wallingford Senior Center to take part in various activities including drumming to help her cope with Parkinson's Disease. She enjoyed time spent volunteering at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Wallingford, making pierogi for the holiday season.
Throughout years of her life her greatest enjoyment was her granddaughter Grace. Nothing gave her more enjoyment than visiting with her in Texas and talking with her.
She is survived by her two sons: Joseph and his wife Marta of New Milford, CT; Stephen and his wife Dana of Spring, TX; siblings Mary Teague, Henderson, NV; Helen Kosik-Westly and husband Leonard Levenson, Monterey, CA; Judy Kuchinski and husband David, Bradenton, FL; Joseph Kosik, Wilkes-Barre, PA; Nancy Colasanto and husband Eric, Plymouth, MA; brother-in-law Tony and his wife Muriel, Durham, CT and sister-in-law Georgia Pizzi Liberatori, Clarks Summit, PA; granddaughter Grace S. Pizzi,
step grandchildren Jacob, Sydney and Jordan all of Spring, TX; step-granddaughters Shaieny & Shiny both from Boston, MA; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by dear friends: Laurie, Andy, Jennifer, Metty, George and Kathy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 4th at 10 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville. All will meet directly at church. The family will receive visitors on Friday, December 3rd from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford.
