Thomas Mezzei, Jr.

WALLINGFORD - Thomas Mezzei Jr., 92, of Wallingford, succumbed to his long battle with cancer on Saturday, November 12, 2022.  He was the beloved husband to Dorothy Sabo Mezzei for 70 years.

Thomas was born in Meriden on August 22, 1930 to the late Thomas and Mary(Czabai) Mezzei.  Throughout his life he belonged to many organizations such as the Wallingford Elks Club and the Wallingford Rotary.  He was the oldest member of the Hungarian Community Club and he served on the Housing Authority for many years.  Thomas was also a member of the Democratic Town Committee.       
 

He was a very loving husband, father, Poppy, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  He will be terribly missed by many.  Besides his loving wife Dorothy, Thomas is survived by two daughters, Robyn (Thomas) Case of Wallingford and Dorothy (Robert) Gattilia of Texas and a son, Thomas (Lisa) Mezzei of Wallingford.  He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Thomas Case (Jen Cooper), Robert (Morgan) Gattilia, Michael (Sunny Huddleston) Gattilia, Glen Ramsey, Stephanie Mezzei (David Miller), Danielle Mezzei, Jason (Mersiha) Mezzei, and Matthew (Kali) Mezzei, as well as six great-grandchildren: Leia Gattilia, Russell Ramsey, Madison Ramsey, Ember Mezzei, Everleigh Miller, Maja Mezzei and arriving soon, Leighton Mezzei and one great great-grandson, Michael Thomas Gattilia.  He will be cherished in the memory of his sister Mary (Luis) Rivera.  In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his granddaughter, Susanne Gattilia (Ramsey); three brothers, Alexander, Robert and Andrew Mezzei, as well as one sister, Jean Zyzo.

A funeral service for Thomas will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 beginning at 10:00 AM at the First Congregational Church of Wallingford. Those attending should meet directly at the church. Interment will immediately follow at Center Street Cemetery. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home has been entrusted with final arrangements.
