Vincent Moreno Tribute

AVON - Vincent Moreno, 88, passed away on December 25, 2020. He was the loving husband for nearly 60 years of the late Joan (Janes) Moreno. Vincent was born in New Britain on May 9, 1932 to the late Nicola and Florence (Penta) Moreno. He was preceded in death by his brother Vito Moreno.

After graduating from Plainville High School (class of 1950) and Cheshire Academy, Vincent went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the College of the Holy Cross in 1955. Upon graduation, Vincent spent months prospecting for uranium in the Hudson Bay area of Canada. Upon his return, he served in the US Army as an MP in Korea. He settled in Plainville with his wife Joan to raise their family and run their family business.

He was the Proprietor of Tom's Cafe, a Plainville community restaurant that was the backdrop of decades of stories to be told. In later years, Vincent worked for the State of Connecticut's Department of Children and Family Services. Upon retirement, Vincent and his wife Joan, spent their winters in Sarasota Florida for many years where Vincent loved to play golf.

Vincent will be cherished in the memories of his children: Laura D’Amico of Clinton, Linda Bak and her husband, Michael of Bristol, Beata Alexander and her husband, Michael of Órgiva, Spain and James Moreno and his wife, Jane of Farmington, thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his brother Thomas Moreno and his wife Jane of Colchester, CT, several nieces and nephews, and faithful companion, his dog Cody.

Vinny always displayed a great sense of humor and shared his art of storytelling with everyone he met. As a passionate sports lover, Vinny was a life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox and a supporter of the UCONN Women's and Men's Basketball programs.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 31st at 10:00 a.m., meeting directly at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 94 Broad St, Plainville. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Plainville. Services have been entrusted to the Bailey Funeral Home of Plainville.
