Vivian Horvath Tribute

MERIDEN - Vivian Twing Horvath, loving daughter of Ann and Howard Twing, passed away in her son’s home at the age of 87 on December 14, 2020 following a yearlong illness.

A lifelong resident of Wallingford, she is survived by her sister, Linda Twing Shadgett of Pittsburgh, PA; two sons, Eric Pavitt (Cheryl) of South Meriden, David Pavitt (Donna) of Wallingford; six grandchildren: Brittney, Jacob (Katelynn), Nicholas, Zachary, Riley Ann, and Emly Ann Pavitt; two great-grandchildren: Haylee and Isabella Kelly; two nephews, Lane (Wendy) and Reed Shadgett; and one niece, Emly Shadgett Bumbaco (Robert).

Vivian was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School and received a B.A. in early childhood education from the University of Connecticut.  Later she completed further studies at Southern Connecticut University to become a reading specialist. After teaching kindergarten in the Meriden and Wallingford Public Schools, she served for a number of years as the reading specialist at Holy Trinity School in Wallingford.  After retiring, she continued to tutor children in her home.  Helping children gain this important skill was her vocation.

A lifelong member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, she had warm memories of every rector beginning with Mr. Green in the 1940's. Her faith community was of utmost importance to her.  She served on vestries, calling committees, and was a longtime member of the Daughter's of the King.  Over the years she was also instrumental in establishing a bible study group and a healing prayer group.

She will be remembered as a welcoming, loving, and inclusive presence by her family, colleagues, and her church friends, and she will be greatly missed.

The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home of Wallingford has been entrusted with the arrangements. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 65 N Main Street, Wallingford.  Interment will follow at the St. Paul’s Memorial Scatter Garden. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be given to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Wallingford and earmarked for outreach to those in need.
