William Simon Tribute

WALLINGFORD- William P. Simon, 93, departed this life on May 25, 2022 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Sharkey) Simon for over 70 years.

William was born in Wallingford, CT on January 5, 1929 to the late Louis and Mary (Horvath) Simon, both Hungarian immigrants who arrived in Wallingford in their teens, met, fell in love and were married.

William spent most of his childhood years in the Yalesville section of Wallingford where he lovingly referred to it as "The Village". He was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School and also Bryant College.  As an adult he operated his own financial services firm.  He had a great life-long love for flying and earned his pilot's license at age 17 at the Wallingford Airport.  He took a hiatus from flying, but resumed flying in his 50's where he then based his personal aircraft out of the Meriden Markham Airport.  William actively flew until he was 74 years old.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a proud United States Veteran.

William was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association as well as the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 27.  He served on the Board of Directors of The Wallingford Committee on Aging from 2001 to 2010 and as the Treasurer of the Board from 2007-2010.

Besides his loving wife Marilyn, William is survived by his son, William Simon Jr. and his wife Ellen, son Robert Simon and his wife Lori, daughter Katherine Holden and her husband Robert, and son Michael Simon and his wife Andrea.  William also leaves to cherish his memory his 8 grandchildren, Kevin Simon, David Simon, Kelsey Holden, Zachary Holden, Michael David, Ryan David, Vanessa Mather, Katie Nemeth and 7 great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his brothers Louis and Julius Simon and sisters Elizabeth Huntley and Lillian Risso.

At William's request all services will be private and at the convenience of his family.  Those who wish to make a memorial contribution in his memory may do so to, The Masonic Charity Foundation of CT, P.O. Box 70 Wallingford, CT 06492.
